The WELL v2™ pilot is the next version of the pioneering WELL Building Standard™, the first rating system to focus exclusively on the impacts of buildings on human health and wellness.

Principles

WELL v2 is founded on the following principles:
  • Equitable

    Provides the greatest benefit to the largest number of people, inclusive of all demographic and economic groups and with special consideration to less advantaged or vulnerable populations.

  • Global

    Proposes interventions that are feasible, achievable and relevant across many applications throughout the world. WELL v2 offers regionally appropriate pathways for meeting health intents based on where projects are located.

  • Evidence-based

    Promotes strong, validated research leading to conclusions that can reasonably be accepted by the scientific community.

  • Technically robust

    Draws upon industry best practices and proven strategies, offering consistency in findings across the relevant field or discipline.

  • Customer focused

    Defines program requirements through a dynamic development process, with multiple opportunities for stakeholder engagement, and by tapping the expertise of established leaders in science, health, business, design and operations.

  • Resilient

    Responds to advances in scientific knowledge and technology, continuously adapting and integrating new findings in the field.

Architecture

A unified standard

WELL v2 consolidates previous iterations and pilots into one WELL for all project types. The system is designed to grow in specificity and specialty over time, adapting to accommodate diverse space types and geographies and to respond to new evidence and ever-evolving public health concerns.

Evolving performance verification

WELL Performance Verification, a critical step in ensuring that WELL buildings are performing as intended, is evolving to be a more seamless process. WELL v2 project teams can contract with local service providers, called performance testing agents, for onsite performance testing.

Dynamic scorecard

The new WELL platform guides project teams through the development of a custom scorecard. The digital platform suggests a selection of features based on project-specific parameters that can be further defined and refined by the project team.

High touch and digital accessibility

All new digital platform

Core to our philosophy of accessibility, WELL v2 is being released digitally and supported by an enhanced version of our online project management portal where project teams register and manage their projects. The reimagined portal features intuitive design intended to make the process of using WELL v2 an efficient and seamless experience.

A dedicated support structure

Engagement with WELL coaching contacts will continue to be an important means for project support in WELL v2. These dedicated contacts guide project administrators through the WELL process, from registration through to certification and recertification, helping projects overcome challenges and brainstorm solutions.
